There were a few issues which made it incredible that we got any kind of movie out of this.
1. This was my first experience of making a movie apart from the
odd video letter to a friend of mine in France.
2. I don't even own a video camera, I borrowed one and the other
came with one of the crew.
3. We didn't know the cast at all, they were drama students from
Kidderminster who just turned up on the day and the first time I met any of them was when I returned home with the title/genre etc.
4. There was no prior scripting, footage or forward planning for
this movie. We wanted to do the project in the spirit with which it was intended so, for us, this was a genuine 48 hour movie.
In summary, luck played a major part in the venture. If the weather had been poor, we would have been in trouble because we had no lighting at all. Finding the drama students was wonderful because they really knew what they were doing and definitely saved the day.
One interesting observation is that, never having seen any short movies produced by such groups, I had no idea what I was up against.
I had no idea whether on the day of the showing, I was going to be surprised at the high standard or the low standard of the entries.
