48 hours???? We thought you said "18"!! Apocryphal story… but yes there’s a nub of truth there. We ran with an over ambitious idea right up til midnight Saturday at which point we were forced to admit we didn’t have a hope in hell of bringing it in on time. This meant coming up with a new idea and starting from scratch on the Sunday morning. The film we handed in went from conception to completion in 18 hours flat. Goodness knows where we found the energy but that’s the wonderful magic of the 48 Hour Challenge. Forget Heineken. If you want to reach the parts other forms of filmmaking can never touch, just set yourself against the clock and go for it. Goethe might have been thinking of us when he espoused the following: "Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back-- Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now." We are tempted to say that Ron Howard should try this formula – you never know, he just might make a decent movie!
